Topshell

Topshell, often referred to as Baigai, is a favored shellfish abundant along the coast of Pakistan. It is commonly available in frozen form and can be enjoyed both raw and cooked. For coastal residents, Topshell is a dietary staple, cherished for its distinctive flavor and texture.

This shellfish represents various species of sea snails from the family Trochidae. Topshells have a characteristic cone-shaped shell that narrows to a pointed tip, with colors that range from dark brown to light beige, frequently displaying unique patterns or ridges. The meat of the topshell is firm and chewy, with a subtle sweetness akin to scallops. It can be prepared in a variety of ways, including boiling, grilling, and stir-frying, and is often featured in soups and stews.
