Squid

Squid are part of the cephalopod family, closely related to cuttlefish and octopuses. Like all cephalopods, they feature a distinct head, bilateral symmetry, a mantle, and eight arms. Squid serve as a vital food source for various aquatic animals and are also popular among humans.

Belonging to the family Teuthidae, squid inhabit oceans and seas worldwide and are commonly consumed in various cultures. They have elongated, cylindrical bodies covered by a soft mantle. In addition to their eight arms, squid possess two longer tentacles, which they use to catch prey and defend themselves. Known for their speed, squid can propel themselves rapidly through the water by expelling jets of water from their mantle. They also have the remarkable ability to change color and texture, allowing them to blend in with their surroundings and evade predators. As an essential part of the marine food web, squid are also commercially harvested for human consumption.
